• Apply to a lot of positions and get professional career advising for AI safety and policy

Online Presence

Making your work more public is an easy way to gain traction and come off as a researcher working on legible topics. By making your contributions more accessible, you can open yourself up to new opportunities.

• With your mentor's okay (the Mentee Agreement asks for a mentor's consent before project findings are released publicly), consider posting your work (or a summary of it) on Twitter (see here and here for examples) and LessWrong (a popular forum for AI safety research, see here and here)
• Consider posting on LinkedIn as well (see here and here for examples)
• Contribute to AI safety research/strategy discourse on either of these platforms
• Actually reach out to people whose research interests you
  • A thoughtful email or message can mean a great deal. Try taking concrete steps towards research collaborations, even if you don’t have a crisp idea yet.
• Stay in touch with people from SPAR
• Tell us at [email protected] when your project leads to a paper, post, or other public output, during or after the round. It's how we track SPAR's impact. </aside>

Continuing research after SPAR

We encourage mentors and mentees to continue doing research after the main SPAR round ends (mentor’s time permitting). SPAR’s optional extension period lasts three months after the program officially ends. Your Mentee Agreement continues to apply through an approved extension, and project expense funding can continue during it (through your mentor).
